Recruitment is a process in which companies continuously attempt to develop a pool of intellectual employees for future needs of human resources in spite in spite of having no vacancies. Generally, in a company the process of recruitment begins when the management demands for vacancy for specific needs or is anticipating a vacancy. However, recruitments in the present times follow the latest trends. In the past decade, India witnessed dramatic changes in the area of recruitments. This trends still continues and the companies are increasingly facing a talent crunch. Although there is no change in the in the number of people needing employment, the companies are rarely finding intellectual and efficient people. The employees, too, are getting into the driver’s seat and taking up jobs in companies that offer them better benefits and promise a good work-life balance. The IT sector, which is considered to be one of the most lucrative from the point of view of an employee, seems to have hit the worst by these changes. The escalating number of employees and a widening gap between demand and supply has made it an extremely competitive market. So the industry has forcefully become aggressive, and is trying to implement more innovation methods of recruiting people. Several MNCs have adopted methods like talent auctions, job fairs, job sites, walk-in tours, talent referral programs, and more to hire talented people in their companies. Private sector firms are hunting for intellectual employees desperately vehemently hunting from them in public sector companies. Taking into consideration the gap between the demand and supply in the market, companies are planning strategies multipronged in nature to tackle the competition. Some of the strategies are employee referrals, campus recruitments, tying up with Job Placement Agencies and Campus Recruitment Companies, taking part in job fairs, advertizing through internet and newspapers. Five years back hiring through newspaper advertisements was the trend. Then this trend gradually started to dilute, and successfully shifted to hiring people through recruitment websites. This important shift started with the first phase of the rise in online recruitment portals. The second phase was unleashed by the advent of social networking sites like LinkedIn, while the recruiting portals still continues to successfully play a significant role. In the beginning, recruiting percentage through online placement agencies was merely 2%, which has now grown to 12%. Although this can be called a significant growth in India, it low in comparison with the recruitment market abroad and print media in India. There is a list of strategies which Multi-national corporations use regularly. Among them walk-in interviews, online recruitment websites, social networking, campus recruitment companies, job fairs, tie-ups with educational institutes and Career Counseling Services, targeting employees of the public sector, employee referrals, etc. Such are the current recruitment practices in India, devised to concentrate talent in a work place. Attempts to recruit “employable” people continue. Their goals are to understand the complex recruitment market in India, reaching out, influencing and grooming the candidates on target, creating awareness of their brand in the Indian market, effectively getting candidates through campus recruitment, effectively conducting employee referral programs, implementing recruitment strategies, reaching out diverse candidates like household women, and more.
