Review: Games development is the game

By Contador Wanarua Date: 6.12.2010 Game Dev Story looks as any other normal game; it requires a surprising amount of strategy and can be highly addictive. If you're a gamer who grew up in the 80s and 90s, you'll love it. When I started, I ended up playing the game for four hours and all the way into the wee hours. It’s one of those games where you tell yourself "Just five more minutes" and end up playing for another hour. And just when you think you've had enough, you'll pick it up the next day. Stupid game...If you have ever dreamed about running your own games development studio, Game Dev Story might just be the game for you. The game presents the game development industry in a highly simplified manner, its many little quirks and details allow sticking really close to the heart of every console gamer out there. You play the boss of a small studio and your job is to make games and get them into the market. This involves hiring and managing staff, negotiating licences for console development, advertising, getting contract work and more. The game makes many references to the real-world industry, albeit with pasar malam-style renaming. It's all pretty hands-off, management-simulation stuff; meaning that you never actually design the games. You only get to choose genres and themes though you can influence the quality of your games, which have four basic stats: Fun, creativity, graphics and sound. These stats are influenced by hiring the right people, using the right power-ups and delegating work to the right people. Production isn't always smooth-sailing, though. Events such as power failures can wreck the stats of your game and some other disasters can happen: the console you're developing for may get cancelled mid-production or a competitor may release a similar game to yours just before you hit the market. What make Game Dev Story really cool, though, are its many references to the real world. Try it please. Visit My Website : http://wanarua.com
