A number of times I tried searching for Do's & Don'ts while SEOing Local Search Engine without any joy. So, if I pen down what i know and what I am stuck with, this would reach to the right audience for sharing knowledge and answering my queries. Everyone needs Local Help! Believe it or not but if you start counting number of times you have asked for "Local Help" during the day, you would be surprised to know. There is a reason Yelp, Tripadvisor, Yellow Pages exist ey! In India aspiring players like asklaila.com, sulekha.com and India’s No.1 Local Search Engine Justdial.com . It is a best platform to promote your business as it s becoming a Leading Local Business Directory. So, what do we have for Local Search Engines to do for which they compete with Places and trying to rank? What is the fundamental of Local Search Engines? How can they be of great assistance when your search query is "local?" Google Places launched is obviously the answer, but hey don't we also trust directories? Remember those days when you ensured the latest edition of local merchant’s directory? Gone are those days as are the days of Printer!! Local Search Engines are evolving in more enhanced and better ways. People review their local merchant which was decades ago kept within the close members, now that is published for unknowns to judge and decide. Likewise, the SEO community is all geared up to optimize this type of search engines. With Obvious some limitations learned over period SEOing Local Search Engine, the biggest being content, Links. Now, you would laugh on this assuming "what a loser" types to me, but hey! Imagine more than 50 Million Merchants, 100 Million possible ranking URLS to begin with. Now, once you have imagined this, kindly describe Content & Link Strategy around this for me please? Matt, Rand all describing about Content for users, Links for sharing etc etc...HOW TO THESE NUMBERS PLEASE? An obvious way to define the best and worst performers, but hey! in this case those number again are way too much mate. This pushed me to try something which i thought was worth. With People reviewing & rating these, how about ensuring site wide architecture is A OK? What if looking at my business if i entice people to stay more and search more, with or without immediate interest? CTR is a ranking factor which i know, AVG Time is another. I am making my audience search more within and ensuring i give the site usage advantage to compute as trustworthiness of my portal. So, Keep that content & Link building strategies as an important factor all the time, but ensure the site wide architecture is the 3rd important factor. You are creating great content, people sharing this across mediums, your content goes social, all this is excellent. You also gain traffic advantage over period; however, your local search engine should also have good site usage data to support your portal's future existence. As for me, it worked as a dream!!! |
