SuperBowl Injury Update

Super Bowl XLV injury update for Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers One of the big factors heading into any big game in any sport is injuries, and that’s certainly looming large for Super Bowl XLV between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. There was a lot of talk Monday about Steelers starting center Maurkice Pouncey and his availability for the Super Bowl at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas.Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin will not rule out the Pro Bowl rookie center playing on Sunday, but did admit Pouncey has a high left ankle sprain. It was pretty clear Pouncey suffered a significant injury when it occurred in the Steelers’ 24-19 win over the New York Jets in the AFC championship, and it was even clearer Monday afternoon as Pouncey required crutches to walk down the steps from the team's charter flight to Dallas, wearing a walking boot on his left foot. ESPN was reporting Monday night that a league source said Pouncey will not play against the Packers. Another interesting injury to note is that of Steelers’ defensive end Aaron Smith , who has been out since Week 7. Smith had surgery to repair a torn triceps muscle after suffering the injury in an Oct. 24 game against the Miami Dolphins. There are rumblings that Smith could get back into the lineup on Super Sunday -- especially after word broke Monday that Smith will have an MRI Tuesday or Wednesday to see if he will be able to play Sunday.Things look much better for the Packers as far as injuries are concerned. Two key players banged up in the NFC championship game against the Chicago Bears – tackle Chad Clifton  and linebacker A.J. Hawk – are both expected to play.
